Top 5 Indoor Play Spaces in the DMV

During this pandemic, many parents have become everything from teachers to coaches for their kids. For younger kids socialization, physical activity, and intellectual stimulation are keys to their proper development.

At BHI as part of the larger Construction and Development community, we wanted to highlight some great opportunities in the Children’s Play Place space. Now more than ever indoor play spaces have become treasured necessities for many communities. As a developer and investor in many Dc communities, we wanted to put together a list of the top five indoor play spaces/enrichment programs in the DMV as food for thought.

I. Badlands Play Space: Rockville, MD

The Badlands is a 30,000 Sq. Ft indoor play space and enrichment program located in Rockville, MD. The goal of the Badland facility is to provide a safe learning environment with support in digital studies, vital social interactions, and mindful play.

BADLANDS ENRICHMENT PROGRAM FEATURES

  • Ample space for social distancing in our 35,000 square foot space • 25% maximum building occupancy at all times • Specialized air filtration system • Specially trained staff: virtual learning, cleaning, First Aid, and CPR/AED Certified • Hourly cleaning and sanitizing with professional deep cleaning every night • Partnership with Adventist HealthCare to test our staff for COVID-19 semi-monthly • Highest standards of cleanliness and hygiene for both students and staff • Check-in procedures include temperature checks & hand washing before entering for staff and students • Relaxation area if a child needs a moment without a mask • A dedicated restroom and sink for each group • Flexibility working with families if children must stay home for feeling unwell

II. Adventure Park USA: Frederick, MD

Adventure Park USA is a 17-Acre indoor/outdoor western-themed park about 40 miles outside of DC. Open year-round, rain or shine, you don’t have to pay admission to enter the park itself. Instead, you purchase a “Fun Pass” with credits that works like a debit card. The outdoor portion of the park features attractions such as roller coasters, tilt-a-whirls, and go-karts. But for the winter indoors you'll find virtual reality games, soft playrooms, rope courses, laser tag, an arcade, bumper cars, and a rock wall.

Being that we are still in a pandemic outdoor and indoor attractions require temperature checks before entering the park, face masks to be worn at all times, and hand sanitizer stations throughout the facility. The entire facility is disinfected throughout the day and deep cleaning is done overnight.

III. The St. James: Springfield, VA

The St. James is an, out of this world, 450,000 sq. ft. destination for sports, wellness, and active entertainment for kids and adults. The St James features a 20,000 sq. ft. dedicated kids area called Super, Awesome & Amazing that is just as amazing as the rest of The St. James. Super, Awesome, and Amazing is essentially a kids version of American Ninja Warrior, complete with Nerf Battle Zone, Trampoline Court, Ninja Warrior Obstacle Course, Ropes Course, Clip ‘n’ Climb, and a Virtual Reality Center. Cabin fever doesn't stand a chance here--your kids can literally climb the walls. You can climb with them...or chillax in the spa/gym/restaurant/basketball court/etc.

The St James COVID protocols include:
